The Great Escape:
The Room Game
The Idea:
Do you like Room by Emma Donoghue? The you'll really love The Great Escape game book! Choose different ideas for a great escape like Jack and his mother came up with and escape Room to Outside and send Old Nick to jail. The idea is to create a book game, similar to the create your own adventure books and have different ideas to escape Room and various endings that are both successes and failures. You can play solo, or with a partner, there are different ideas for solo and partnership games, and many different outcomes, even after the escape from Room, depending on your choices, the rest of your life can be affected.
The ideas origin:
The idea comes from Jack and his mothers ideas to escape room in the book, and how the aftermath can be positive and negative. Their plan A was "Sick, truck, hospital, find someone, police, save Ma". Basically Jack was to act sick, have Old Nick take him to the hospital, and tell someone about Room. It failed, Old Nick didn't want to take him, too risky he thought. Just as their first plan failed, the players plans can fail as well, depending on what they decide. Their Plan B was "Dead, truck, get out of Rug, jump, find someone, police, save Ma" it was for Jack to pretend to be dead from the sickness the next night, and his "corpse" be rolled up in to a rug, Old Nick would drive to a remote area and bury him and he was to get out of the rug and jump of the truck to get away from Old Nick and find someone and get the police. And that plan was a success, it had some problems, like Jack got injured, but otherwise it worked. So the idea of the book game comes from that. How will your escape plan affect the rest of your life you ask? Well, depending on your outcome, your "life" could be affected, for example: If you didn't escape and your plan failed, Old Nick would lock you up tighter and crack down much harder, or possibly kill you. If you escape, and Old Nick was never caught, he tracks you down and recaptures you. Or if you escape and you get injured in a major way, it'll affect your life, things along those lines.
Why it'll work:
Well it'll be entertaining and fun for both fans of the book, and possibly it'll create some fans. Escapes are exciting and stimulating, people enjoy them, so people might get it for just that reason, and fans will buy it as well because it connects to the book, to make their own Great Escape like Jack did, and they'll want more from Donoghue and maybe read her other books. If people read the game book, they'll get interested where the idea came from and they'll read the book, wouldn't you? And fans will stay connected because it's an enjoyable thing from the book, a great moment.
Example of a scenario in the game book(solo play):
You have two options after your plan to try and break the skylight failed. Old Nick is suspicious, and you must escape soon, or else he might take drastic measures.
Option #1: Flood Room, for one day, run all of the water sources: The sink, toilet, and bath. The next night he comes and opens the door, the water will distract him and you immobilize him as best you can, and then make a run for it. (go to page 135)
Option #2: While Old Nick is sleeping in Room, you find a blunt object of some kind, wake him and knock him unconscious, find something to tie him up with. When he wakes, try to get him to give you the door code. (go to page 76)
After you choose which you would like to do and go to the page with the scenario on it, you'll find out if the plan worked.
Page 135: Flood plan
When Old Nick opens the door the next night, he is astonished that it is flooded and he stumbles when hit with the wave of water after opening the door. You kick his leg and he falls and you run, but he's already right on your tail, screaming at you. Once you get to the road, you scream help a few times, still running. A car comes fast down the road, blinded by the brightness of the headlights, you're petrified. The car hits you and you are knocked unconscious. You wake in a hospital and find you can't feel your legs. Old Nick was arrested and you're safe. You escaped Room, but the injury caused you to be paralyzed from the waist down for the rest of your life.
Page 76: Sleeping Knockout
You wake in the middle of the night, Old Nick is in a deep sleep next to you. You quietly get out of bed, grab a pan from the stove, shake him awake, he grunts in annoyance, then you hit his head with the pan and he goes silent. Using some of the bedsheets you ripped off, you tie his hands and his legs. A few hours later, he wakes and is furious. You try to get the door code out of him, he isn't budging. After a few hours of hitting him and trying to get the code, he finally says he'll give it to you if you promise to leave him a way to escape his bindings. You promise and he tells you after you throw a knife on the ground near him. You escape and find help and call the police. Old Nick escaped before the police got to him. You escaped Room, and lived another seven years on the outside until Old Nick tracks you down and kills you.
So that's the idea of the book, scenarios such as those, they all don't have sad endings by the way.

Post #4 My opinion of Room
Room was an enteratining book (I finished it) and had more cliffhangers than I expected. As I said in my previous post, the book is told from the perspective of a five year old named Jack, and the perspective that it's in, for me at least, caused some nostalgia, remebering my childhood and how simple things seemed and how looking back, things are different. Also another thing I enjoyed about the book was that since it's a five-year old telling the story, often you have to figure out what he is talking about, what he's discribing. I just found it fun and entertaining to do that. The book lived up and went beyond my expectations, and goes beyond the intinal main story that the summary would give you. Room is a great and interesting read, you'll find yourself hooked and not wanting to put it down, you'll also find yourself, possibly, thinking back to your childhood and rethinking some of your five-year old logic.

Post #3 What is a book?
A book is a new world, a new experiernce. To me, reading a book is like being put into a new world through new eyes and the experience is real (depending on how good the discription is I suppose) and I learn new things. A book can be anything, the possiblites are endless, and even if a book is about now, this world we live in, it is still new to you. You have never experienced what the book is making you experience, not in the way it is, it's new and different. When reading you are seeing things through someone elses eyes, regardless if it is fiction or non-fiction, the mental experience is real. The human mind can experience things without being in a certain place, or even just seeing it, you can imagine it, you can create the person, place, or thing in your mind, imagination is the greatest thing a mind can conjure. A book is a new world you create in your mind full of new experiences.

I chose Room by Emma Donoghue, because it was a type of book I've never read before, I usually read science fiction and fantasy, so it was a new experience. Also I chose this book because nothing else on the list intrigued me like this one, the plotline is interesting and it interested me. I haven't, before finding this book, ever heard of Emma Donoghue and have never read any of her other books, I might now though. And the thing that I liked the most was that the book is told from the persective of a five year old, so the wrtitng style is different and new.

I read because I enjoy reading. I love entering a new world through words, I can imagine it in my head and it's an escape from reality to something more exciting and new. I also like it because it's a great time waster and I can do it, usually, whenever I please. As well as being introduced to a new world, I also "meet" new people, I love following the charcaters and their devlopment, how they grow and change. I read because I takes me somewhere different and new.
